Wotton Kearney has significantly expanded its Asia practice with the addition of a dedicated marine, trade and commodities capability in Asia with the appointment of Partner Karnan Thirupathy, Special Counsel Charlene Sim and their team in Singapore.

The arrival of the Asia marine, trade and commodities team will strengthen Wotton Kearney’s ability to support insurers, P&I Clubs, commodity traders, vessel owners, charterers and other participants across the Asia Pacific maritime, logistics and international trade sectors.

With more than 25 years’ experience working in Asia, Karnan specialises in international arbitration and multi-jurisdictional commercial disputes across the commodities, shipping and insurance sectors. He advises commodity traders, vessel owners and charterers, offshore energy contractors, P&I Clubs and insurers on a broad range of contentious and advisory matters.

Charlene has been in practice for 11 years, the majority of which she has been working with Karnan and brings extensive experience in commercial disputes and international arbitration, with a focus on shipping, logistics and international trade. Her experience includes cross-border disputes involving LNG and commodity sale and purchase contracts, contracts of affreightment, charter parties and marine insurance policies.

The team’s arrival expands Wotton Kearney’s established insurance and disputes capability in Asia and follows expansion of the firm’s marine team in New Zealand.
