Leading insurance and risk law firm Wotton Kearney has strengthened its Workplace practice with the hire of partner Laura Gavan. Laura joins from HWL Ebsworth Lawyers and will head up Wotton Kearney’s employment law offering in Melbourne.
Laura brings over 11 years of experience in workplace relations and safety law, with a focus on termination of employment, post-employment restraint and confidential information litigation.
Laura is known for her strong litigation skills across various courts and commissions. She is a strategic and commercially minded legal advisor who has advised clients across all sectors on a range of employment, industrial relations and work health and safety matters.

Laura’s appointment continues Wotton Kearney’s recent growth trajectory. In April, the firm announced plans to expand into Asia, followed by the launch of an aviation practice led by special counsel James Cooper. In May, the firm announced plans to adopt an AI solution developed specifically for the legal industry.
Founded in 2002, Wotton Kearney has grown from two partners to 80 partners and over 450 lawyers across offices in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide, Canberra, Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch. It will open an office in Singapore on 18 June 2024.
