Laura has over 11 years’ experience in workplace relations and safety law and is included in the High Court of Australia’s Register of Practitioners.
Laura is experienced in a broad range of employment, industrial relations, and work health and safety matters, with a focus on termination of employment, post-employment restraint and confidential information litigation (including applications for urgent injunctive relief). She has represented clients in matters before the Federal Court of Australia, Supreme Court of New South Wales, New South Wales Local Courts, Federal Circuit Court, Industrial Relations Commission of New South Wales, Fair Work Commission and the Australian Human Rights Commission.
Laura works closely with clients across all sectors, assisting these clients in:
- conducting performance management and termination of employment processes in a procedurally fair manner
- responding to employee misconduct issues
- developing strategies for and implementing effective workplace restructures
- resolving queries around employee entitlements, including bonus payments, with regard to relevant industrial instruments and applicable employment agreements, and
- developing strong workplace policies, including privacy policies.
Laura’s other areas of expertise and experience include:
- responding to claims brought by ex-employees in a dismissal context, including unfair dismissal claims, adverse action claims and discrimination complaints
- conducting independent workplace investigations into employee misconduct, including for major banks
- providing comprehensive advice on legislative, award and enterprise agreement compliance, duties under the Corporations Act 2001 (Cth), executive termination payments, and managing ill and injured workers
- advising international media and entertainment conglomerates and e-commerce corporations on independent contractor liability issues
- drafting enterprise agreements and implementing effective enterprise bargaining strategies
- drafting due diligence reports for company acquisitions, and
- completing best practice contract, policy and procedure reviews.
