Wotton Kearney has scored another win in its strategic growth, welcoming Jacques Jacobs and his team of six to the Sydney office. Joining from Clyde & Co, Jacques brings a wealth of experience in the warranty and indemnity insurance space, further cementing Wotton Kearney’s position as a leader in financial lines.
A standout in litigation and insurance law, Jacques specialises in professional indemnity, financial institutions, directors & officers, cyber, and ESG-related risks like climate change and greenwashing. Beyond his reputation as a coverage expert, Jacques has a proven track record as a defence lawyer, managing everything from multi-party litigation to regulatory and disciplinary hearings for insurers and their clients.
Andrew Moore, Wotton Kearney’s Head of Financial Lines, highlighted the significance of this appointment, saying “Jacques and his team are a fantastic fit for Wotton Kearney. His expertise in ESG and other emerging risks will be a huge asset to our clients and our growing team.”
For Jacques, this move feels like a homecoming, having started his legal career at Wotton Kearney in 2003 followed by roles at DLA Piper, Norton Rose Fulbright and Clyde & Co.
“This is an exciting time to rejoin Wotton Kearney,” he said. “The firm’s commitment to growth and innovation aligns perfectly with our expertise and ambitions. We look forward to contributing to the firm’s continued success.”
Joining Jacques are Special Counsel James Read, Associate Rachelle Moran, Solicitor Aleks Thwaite-Wright, Graduate Zoe Janssen, and Legal Administrative Assistants Tess McKinnel and Caitlin Gibbs.
This appointment adds to another landmark year for Wotton Kearney. Following a bold rebrand in November, the firm has continued to build momentum, launching a legal AI solution in May, opening its first Asian office in June, and welcoming several new partners, including construction specialist Sarah Metcalfe.
It’s all part of the firm’s remarkable trajectory since its start in 2002, growing from two partners to 86 and over 700 team members across Australia, New Zealand, and Singapore.
