Tell us about your journey to becoming a partner at W+K

I joined W+K in 2018, having worked in insurance since 2009. Since joining W+K, I have been fortunate enough to work with a number of market-leading lawyers who have assisted me to develop my skills and provided an environment where my career progression has been encouraged. Whilst working in insurance law affords opportunities to work in a wide array of areas, I have enjoyed the ability to specialise in claims involving technology professionals as part of W+K’s broader Cyber + Technology team.

What made you decide to become a lawyer?

A number of misleading TV shows initially! Aside from that, I have always enjoyed reading, writing and arguing so it seemed like a natural fit.

What do you think is a major issue facing your area of law?

The biggest issue currently facing technology professionals is undoubtedly the increased exposures arising from cyber incidents and the need to take steps to mitigate those risks, in an environment where threat actors continue to become more sophisticated. For the insurance market, the challenge is to ensure that technology liability products keep up with the evolving risk landscape.

What’s the best piece of advice (work or personal) you’ve been given?

Don’t use more words than you need.

What do you enjoy most about working at W+K?

A couple of things stick out. Firstly, the ability to work with motivated and like-minded colleagues on a wide range of interesting matters. Secondly, being part of a close-knit and supportive team (which likes to have a bit of fun along the way).

What do you get up to outside of law?

My two young daughters (3 and 1) keep me on my toes. A typical weekend will involve dance classes, swimming lessons and multiple trips to the park. Occasionally, I also like to hack my way around a golf course or take in a Sydney Swans match at the SCG (although not so much this season).

Complete this sentence – if I wasn’t a lawyer, I would be…

Either a professional golf caddie (certainly not a professional golfer) or a judge for Travel + Leisure’s Best Hotels in the World.
