A highly regarded and trusted adviser, she works with New Zealand fishing companies, maritime operators and shore-side businesses across all aspects of the industry, building strong client relationships and stepping in when the stakes are highest—whether on regulatory compliance, major investigations, commercial transactions or maritime incidents.

She acts for clients facing investigation and prosecution under the Fisheries Act, Health and Safety at Work Act, Maritime Transport Act and Biosecurity Act. During the COVID-19 border closures, Karyn played a key role in helping clients bring in international fishing crew, keeping New Zealand’s fishing fleet operating throughout the pandemic. She has appeared in New Zealand’s longest District Court criminal trial, as well as in the High Court, Court of Appeal, coronial inquests and labour inspectorate investigations.
