We’re as flexible as you are
We care about client outcomes, quality, business contributions and cultural contributions. If you can make that work by working part-time, working “irregular hours” or working from home – then so can we.
The attributes we look for are:
- being a team player (that’s an obvious one)
- a love of learning
- curiosity about clients and our business
- an innovative and solutions-mindset, and
- adaptability to change.
Investing in the right foundations
Founded in 2002, WK has grown from two partners to be one of Australasia’s undisputed leaders in our industry with over 230 employees across offices in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth in Australia and Auckland and Wellington in New Zealand. You don’t achieve this type of growth unless you have good foundations to attract talented people, continuously invest in their careers and the culture to retain them.
Here are a few of those foundations that help you grow your career…
WK has one focus – insurance law. This singular focus means we are home to many talented lawyers that are leading industry specialists. They have an in-depth knowledge of the legal issues, claims management processes, commercial drivers and interests that impact all players in the insurance industry, including commercial customers.
WK is honored to be the legal firm of choice for many leading insurers, brokers and industry participants in Australia and across the globe. If you join us, you will be part of an industry-leading team that solves complex legal problems, excels at client service, works on the most interesting and market defining claims, and is constantly challenging itself to learn and innovate. You will see great opportunities to boost your personal brand and professional network through your exposure to market recognised local and global lawyers, insurance professionals and other industry experts.
We want our employees to thrive at WK. Through our mentoring program, you will work alongside a senior lawyer or partner who will provide you with support and guidance at all stages of your career.
You will have access to both in-house and external training, conferences and workshops to ensure you have the tools you need to be successful at WK and remain up-to-date with the latest developments in both the legal and insurance industries.
You will also be encouraged to join relevant industry networks and professional associations and then use these connections to open up doors to meet clients and create opportunities that build your personal brand.
It is not just technical skills that we focus on. You will be invited to attend courses focused on building the business skills you need to be successful, including advocacy and negotiation training, leadership development and client engagement skills. We also offer courses such as ‘How to write to engage your audience’, ‘Building brand “you”‘ and ‘How to present like Steve Jobs.’
At WK, we want our lawyers to experience, first-hand, how our clients operate. However, not all clients are the same and gaining an insider’s knowledge of what is important to them through secondments makes us better lawyers and gives us a unique perspective on how to help clients resolve claims. You will be actively encouraged to pursue secondment opportunities, in the Australian market, as well as in one of the international offices of our Legalign Global alliance partners, as part of our talent exchange program.
If undertaking further studies to enhance your technical skills is something that interests you, WK can financially support you, as we want you to be the very best lawyer or industry professional you can be.
