Nina specialises in property and liability insurance and has extensive experience advising and acting for insurers and their insureds on complex legal issues. Nina acts on behalf of a wide range of insureds including commercial and residential property owners, creative industry professionals, and building industry professionals. She regularly advises on material damage and business interruption matters, and acts in subrogated recoveries.

She also has London-market experience from her previous role as lawyer at an international firm based in London, where she advised reinsurers/reinsureds in respect of international claims in the marine and energy sectors.

While working in the London market, Nina completed multiple client secondments to better understand insurers’ needs and to assist with growth strategy. Nina was seconded as an in-house claims handler at a multinational insurer, and as an international secondee at a major international insurer advising on its control framework for managing international claims.

Construction and Infrastructure

  • Achieving successful settlement outcomes defending a main contractor in claims brought by a housing association for failure to meet fire safety standards in a housing development in the United Kingdom.

Recoveries 

  • Achieving a successful and swift settlement outcome acting for a commercial building owner pursuing a recovery against a roofing contractor for failing to weatherproof works.
  • Achieving a successful mediated outcome acting for a major film production company in a dispute against film studio concerning asbestos found at a leased studio space requiring postponement of a production.
  • Assisting with recovery action brought by insurers of a media company seeking recovery of material damage and business interruption losses caused by a fire at a commercial premises in Italy.

Indemnity 

  • Advising insurers on coverage matter concerning large group action brought against multiple entities in the education sector.

Energy, Mining and Power

  • Assisting with advice to Lloyd’s market reinsurers on defective part clauses in an Offshore Construction All Risk policy (incorporating standard WELCAR definitions) on an exposure arising from an offshore asset in Malaysia.

Marine and Transport 

  • Assisting with advice to Lloyd’s market reinsurers on a disputed marine hull total loss claim involving multiple casualties in Asia.
  • Acting for insurers of an airport to pursue a claim against an airline for property damage caused by light aircraft crash.
