Emily is an experienced public liability and general insurance lawyer, with significant experience specialising in injury related claims.
Emily’s work has always had an injury focus and has included public liability claims, statutory recoveries and common law workers claims, as well as property damage claims and indemnity advice. Emily provides clear, straightforward and commercial advice to clients to ensure they can achieve the best possible outcome. She has developed strong relationships with insurers, co-defendants and plaintiff lawyers over her years of practice.
Emily has broad experience in acting for both local and international insurers and insureds. She has acted for sporting clubs, cleaning companies, security providers, construction companies, Universities and energy companies.
Emily has been recognised in the 2024 and 2025 Editions of Best Lawyers Australia for ‘Insurance Law’.
Complex Claims
- Providing coverage advice to multiple local and international insurers in two high profile, ongoing class actions in the Supreme Court of Victoria.
- Providing coverage and defence advice in a complex personal injury matter involving multiple co-defendants and allegations of assault and battery against our client’s employees.
- Successfully resolving a claim at mediation in a matter brought by the spouse of a deceased worker who suffered nervous shock injuries.
- Undertaking early investigations into a matter involving a workplace fatality and liaising with relevant stakeholders to be able to advise our client on the claim at an early stage.
- Acting for two insureds in a Wrongs Act claim where the plaintiff alleged that injuries were sustained as a result of construction works and achieving an excellent outcome at mediation.
Construction and Infrastructure
- Obtaining an excellent result in a personal injury claim brought by a worker injured at a construction site. Proceedings were brought many years after the incident against the Insured, which was the head contractor at the site, as well as the employer company and other contractors at the site.
- Acting for a construction company named as a defendant in a high value, multi-defendant personal injury claim in the Supreme Court where the worker was injured at the West Gate Tunnel project.
- Acting for a host employer who was managing a large site where the worker was injured in a transport accident.
- Advising insurers in respect of a fatality at a wind farm involving multiple contractors and workers on site.
- Advising Underwriters in respect of a dual insurance claim where the insured company had subcontracted with the employer company.
