Breannon has significant experience in the healthcare and public liability insurance sectors, with particular expertise in medical malpractice and personal injury litigation. She has defended claims brought against global biopharmaceutical companies, aged care facilities, medical practitioners and other allied health professionals in most Australian jurisdictions. She also routinely works with health practitioners to respond to disciplinary investigations and complaints.

Breannon also works on instruction from both local and international underwriters to investigate, assess and defend personal injury claims brought in a number of forums and across a wide range of industries.

Breannon has extensive alternative dispute resolution experience and is a confident advocate, having engaged in commercial negotiations in a range of forums including the Australian Human Rights Commission.

Breannon focuses on achieving the best possible outcome for clients through the thorough preparation of matters. She is committed to providing strategic advice and is focussed on the early, commercial resolution of claims (where appropriate) and outcomes that are suitable to both the insurer and the insured.

  • Successfully defending litigated matters on behalf of health practitioners, market retailers and local Councils at trial.
  • Appearing at contested interlocutory matters and at trial in complex, multi-party litigated claims involving catastrophic injuries to adults and minors and requiring an assessment of damages under the Compensation to Relatives Act and the Civil Liability Act.
  • Routinely defending matters using the statutory defences of the Civil Liability Act, including matters involving dangerous recreational risk activities (such as horse racing, parasailing, jet boating and segway activities), injuries on worksites (involving statutory recovery proceedings under the Workers Compensation Act) and personal injury claims brought by members of the public against local government authorities.
  • Acting for institutions and other corporate entities in the investigation and resolution of historical sexual abuse claims.
  • Assisting in the quantification of a personal injury class action claim brought in the Federal Court of Australia (comprised of more than 2,000 group members).
  • Acting in the defence of personal injury claims brought against international freight and warehousing companies, market retailers, property owners, small businesses, occupiers and agents.
  • Acting on behalf of security guards, licensees and correctional facilities in the defence of intentional tort claims.
