Simone is an experienced commercial litigator and advisor who has assisted a variety of clients with a broad range of issues including institutional liability and personal injury claims, governance and policy issues, and complex contractual disputes.
She has acted for and advised a range of organisations across various industries including public, private and not-for-profit institutions, non-government schools, aged care and community services organisations, private companies, unincorporated associations and their insurers in civil matters.
Simone’s approach to litigation and problem-solving is informed by her experience in a variety of roles and contexts, including as an in-house counsel at two large non-government organisations and earlier work in personal injury litigation. Her experience enables her to work closely with clients to understand their thinking, identify the key issues, and effectively assist them to strategically manage risks and pursue their objectives in complex and evolving situations.
She has managed litigation across multiple jurisdictions in Victoria as well as interstate, and is also experienced in alternative dispute resolution processes.
- Acting for and advising large institutional organisations, community services organisations, non-government schools and their insurers in institutional liability, personal injury, and various other civil disputes, claims and actions.
- Representing a private company in a complex contractual dispute involving the interpretation of a share sale agreement.
- Advising not-for-profit organisations, non-government schools, aged care and community services organisations, and private companies in relation to a range of issues including civil disputes, privacy and freedom of information, equal opportunity and discrimination, governance and compliance issues, insurance, policy matters, and conducting internal disciplinary investigations and processes.
- Advising non-government organisations and schools regarding policy and compliance issues, including in relation to the operation of the Reportable Conduct Scheme, the National Redress Scheme, and developing similar compensation models for a religious organisation.
- Assisting with responses to regulatory requests and enquiries and supporting responses to investigations, including by the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission, AHRPA, the Commission for Children and Young People, Coroners Court of Victoria, and working in a team coordinating a large community services organisation’s response to the Royal Commission into Violence, Abuse, Neglect and Exploitation of People with Disability.
