With over 15 years’ experience, Richard maintains a comprehensive practice covering contentious, transactional, contractual and regulatory issues, within the maritime, transport and logistics industries.

That experience spans carriage of goods by sea, ship arrest and admiralty, marine insurance, land-side logistics, freight forwarding, ship sale and purchase, corporate acquisitions and disposals, commercial litigation and competition and restrictive trade practices.

Richard has earned the trust of some of Australia’s largest integrated logistics companies, port and terminal operators, marine and logistics insurers, and freight forwarders.

  • Advising and acting for an ASX-listed integrated logistics operator on multiple, simultaneous, and urgent interlocutory applications and substantive proceedings, stemming from COVID-affected contractual performance.
  • Acting for the owners of a container services and storage business, on the sale of their interests to a large ASX-listed logistics industry participant.
  • Advising and acting on a dispute involving upgrade works to port and terminal infrastructure.
  • Acting for a large Australian services company on the sale of its agency business, including operations and subsidiaries in Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, Papua New Guinea and India.
  • Acting for a US conglomerate on the acquisition of an established South Pacific shipping line.
  • Acting for a major international liner operator on the acquisition of a property-rich container depot business.
