He has extensive experience in acting as both coverage and defence counsel for consultants in building defects claims, including architects, engineers and building surveyors. This experience is supplemented by Ricci’s previous secondment roles a claims manager.
Ricci has been involved in a number of high profile disputes, including litigation regarding the fire at Lacrosse (the first major combustible cladding case in Australia) and the Willansby Apartments (one of the longest running cases at VCAT with a 55-day trial).
Ricci also has a wealth of experience acting for consultants in disciplinary matters. He is among the solicitors to have represented the most number of architects in disciplinary proceedings at the Architects Tribunal in the last 2 years.
- Acting for Australia’s leading façade consultant to settle a $2.5 claim in relation to alleged condensation occurring within the glass panels used in the external façade of a high-rise building for student accommodation.
- Defending the structural engineers in a claim relating to structural defects at the Pacific Werribee Shopping Centre where rectification costs are alleged in excess of $200 million.
- Providing coverage advice in respect of the $100 million + redevelopment of the Kew Recreation Centre after the collapse of its steel-trussed roof
- Representing the architect and lead consultant in a $3 million claim by a tertiary education provider in respect of the construction of a culinary school.
- Defending the mechanical engineer in a multi-million dollar litigated claim relating to overheating issues at The Estelle.
- Acting for a design and planning consultant in a Supreme Court proceeding relating to the construction of a telecommunications facility, with alleged remediation works costing about $1.5 million.
