Rebecca is a senior associate in WK’s Australian cyber incident response team, specialising in privacy, data protection and cyber incident response. She advises on a broad range of cyber incidents for insureds in a range of industries, assisting with data breach investigations, and developing notification and regulatory strategies in response to an incident.
Rebecca also helps clients prepare for cyber incidents and to improve their privacy posture, including developing response plans, privacy policies and privacy impact assessments. Rebecca has worked for several years in-house in a Federal Government agency, advising on privacy and administrative law issues, as well as assisting in tribunal matters.
Over her career, Rebecca has developed a deep understanding of the legal issues and practical implications of data handling and sharing – before, during and after a data breach incident.
- Acting as privacy counsel for a health services provider impacted by a ransomware attack committed by a state actor.
- Acting as privacy counsel and incident response manager for a range of high-scale data breaches affecting Australian organisations, including business email compromise, funds misdirection and impersonation attacks.
- Advising an education provider in response to an internal employee data breach, working on strategies to manage the reputational and legal impacts of the incident, and advising on process and procedure changes to prevent reoccurrence.
- Advising several organisations on their privacy policies, cyber incident response plans, and the privacy impact of projects involving major changes to data handling based on experience in dealing with the privacy regulator and managing privacy complaints from individuals in response to breaches.
