Rachel specialises in the defence of Compulsory Third Party (CTP) personal injury claims, which have often involved complex liability, medical causation, economic loss or other quantum issues. She regularly acts as the instructing solicitor at trials in the District Court of South Australia.

Before entering legal practice, she worked as a nurse, as well as in claims consultant roles for insurance companies, which has broadened her understanding of personal injury matters and claims processes.

  • Advising clients in relation to liability, medical causation, Injury Scale Value assessment and quantum issues, as well as strategy, with a focus on dispute resolution. This has included matters involving complex economic loss issues due to self-employment or multiple business entities.
  • Negotiating informal settlements of matters involving more than one claim by the same claimant, including where the claims arose from accidents which occurred pre- and post-legislative changes, which required each of the claims to be assessed under different legislative provisions.
  • Negotiating settlements in matters involving workers compensation recoveries with differences in the quantum assessment under the applicable legislative regimes.
  • Carrying out formal and informal negotiations as well as preparing matters for trial, including completing pre-trial court processes in accordance with the Court Rules and negotiating resolution of matters prior to trial.
