Murriam has broad expertise in insurance litigation in property and general liability claims. Murriam acts primarily in complex multi-party property damage and construction and infrastructure matters, with a particular interest in coverage and indemnity issues.
Murriam acts for national and international insurers and insured customers in claims arising from construction, building and maintenance works for commercial and residential premises. Murriam also assists with subrogated recoveries arising from insured losses.
Murriam regularly appears in the Local Court, District Court and Supreme Court of New South Wales independent of counsel in contentious interlocutory disputes. Murriam has also appeared in the NSW Civil and Administrative Tribunal on behalf of indemnified insureds in defence of proceedings.
Murriam has completed a secondment embedded in the claims team of a third party administrator on behalf of an international insurer, considering coverage, policy response and advising underwriters with respect of construction claims. Murriam also has experience making claims determinations within authorised limits.
- Advising on and defending a litigated multi-party construction dispute in the Supreme Court of NSW involving multiple alleged breaches of statutory duties under the Design and Building Practitioners Act 2020 (NSW) and Home Building Act 1989.
- Advising underwriters and defending a claim in the NSW Civil and Administrative Tribunal involving roofing installation works by an insured.
- Advising on and defending complex multi-party construction disputes involving excavation works and shoring works undertaken by contractors.
