Liana specialises in managing and defending personal injury claims under the Personal Injuries Proceedings Act 2002 (Qld) and the Civil Liability Act 2003 (Qld), and in the Queensland District and Supreme Courts. She advises Australian and international insurers, corporate insureds, brokers and claims agents on a wide variety of issues, including policy coverage, liability, quantum, evidence and resolution prospects.

Liana has extensive experience acting in workplace injury claims and in sensitive matters, such as those involving institutional abuse, injuries to minors, catastrophic injuries and fatal incidents. She takes a proactive approach to managing claims by identifying key issues early and advising on strategy and resolution accordingly.

Liana is an active committee member of the Australian Insurance Law Association (Qld).

  • Acting for a large statutory insurer in the successful defence of a workers’ compensation claim for damages in the Supreme Court of Queensland.
  • Advising and acting for insurers and corporate insureds on complex multiparty claims involving injuries sustained on construction and mining sites.
  • Acting for a variety of insurers in claims brought by minors through litigation guardians, including claims involving injuries sustained at childcare centres and on school premises.
  • Advising and acting for insurers and insureds in pure psychiatric injury claims arising out of workplace incidents and fatal incidents.
  • Advising and acting for insurers in dependency/wrongful death claims, including liaising with the Coroner’s Office and investigating authorities.
