Jorge specialises in cyber, data security and privacy law, advising all types of businesses through cyber events, including those with significant multiparty and/or multi-jurisdictional impacts. This includes guiding SMEs and large corporates through significant ransomware and other novel cyber incident incidents, assisting with data breach investigations and preparing notifications to the OAIC and affected individuals.
Jorge also has ‘front-end’ cyber risk consulting experience, having advised large corporates and ASX listed companies strengthen their privacy posture by creating data breach response plans, privacy policies, and conducting data breach simulation exercises.
Jorge recently completed a secondment at Aon as a Technical Specialist in the Cyber Solution Group, further entrenching his competitive ‘edge’ and a deep understanding of legal issues and practical implications of cyber claims.
- Acting as incident response manager and privacy counsel in a significant number of cyber matters involving Australian SMEs, particularly in the financial and health sector. Incident types include phishing, social engineering, ransomware and malware. These matters have involved working with IT forensics, providing privacy advice and preparing submissions to the OAIC.
- Managing a significant notification campaign for a large health services organisation who experienced a ransomware attack. This involved preparing notifications to >120,000 individuals and responding to thousands of enquiries from affected individuals.
- Managing a large-scale personally identifiable information (PII) review of compromised mailboxes, in connection with a business email compromise incident affecting a healthcare provider.
- Acting as coverage counsel for a London insurer in relation to a significant data breach impacting an ASX-listed financial services provider.
- Assisting corporate clients with preparing and implementing comprehensive incident response plans. Providing training to large corporate clients and insurers on the management of data breach incidents. Conducting data breach response simulations and reviewing data breach response plans to ensure robust incident management.
