Filip is in the Financial Lines team where he primarily focusses on issues of professional liability. This sees Filip assisting with the defence of civil or disciplinary claims made against solicitors and construction professionals. He further assists Insurers with the provision of coverage advice where necessary. Filip also has specialist expertise in workplace disputes, and construction disputes, having pivoted from a mixed litigation practice at a large New Zealand commercial law firm. Filip advises insurers, insureds, employers, and underwriters in New Zealand and the international market. 

Filip is a detail-oriented lawyer and a big-picture pragmatist, utilising both skill sets to help clients reach commercially sensible solutions to their legal issues.  As a problem solver, he enjoys the satisfaction that comes with working on complex, intellectually demanding matters and seeing them through to resolution. 

Having previously provided his services to community law centres in South Auckland, Filip is keen on improving access to justice through Wotton Kearney’s pro bono programme. 

  • Assisting with the defence of professional negligence claims against solicitors and engineers.

  • Assisted a well-known New Zealand company commence a $15,000,000 arbitration against designers of a highly specialised commercial building. The matter involved complex claims in breach of contract and negligence.  
  • Acted for a plaintiff construction company in an adjudication under the Construction Contracts Act 2002 concerning a complicated extension of time claim following delays to a construction project. 
  • Favourably resolved a high-profile employment dispute between a large financial institution and one of its executives prior to the dispute heading to the Employment Relations Authority. 
  • Assisted with the defence of the landmark Uber Court of Appeal litigation concerning the employment status of Uber drivers.
