Connor acts on behalf of local and international insurers on personal injury, property damage and product liability matters. Connor has extensive experience acting for construction and mining companies, sporting and recreational clubs, host employers and property owners to assist them in responding to public liability claims.

Connor’s experience ranges from advising on catastrophic injuries to complex multi-party litigation in the District, Supreme and Federal Courts. Connor adopts a pragmatic approach to the law and ensures that his client’s commercial and legal objectives are front of mind in the management of their claims.

Prior to joining Wotton Kearney Connor gained experience acting on behalf of plaintiffs, this unique insight allows him to provide balanced advice and to manage the nuance of relationships with plaintiffs and their lawyers to achieve the best result for his clients.

Sports, Leisure and Entertainment

  • Acting for professional and semi-professional sporting organisations in relation to defending claims arising out of allegations of bullying in an elite sporting environment.
  • Advised major professional competitive sporting organisations on coverage relating to claims arising out of coaching and training of athletes, with consideration of claim strategy, reputational management and industry-wide implications.
  • Defending personal injury and intentional torts claims arising in recreational sporting environments (martial arts, dancing, tennis, swimming, surfing, lawn bowls).

Industrial and Commercial Property

  • Responding to claims on behalf of property managers and owners, quickly assessing liability exposure and ensuring their prompt removal from claims with minimal costs incurred.

Public Sector and Education

  • Responding to a claim for damages made against multiple defendants with various contractual issues arising between them and where the incident was alleged to have triggered the growth rate of the plaintiff’s pre-existing brain tumour. Connor assisted in achieving a negotiated outcome by corralling the various parties and ensuring significant costs saving by avoiding the matter progressing to trial.
  • Acting for institutions and government agencies in the investigation and resolution of historical child sexual abuse claims, including assisting in obtaining a permanent stay of historical abuse proceedings in the District Court of Western Australia in GMB v UnitingCare West [2020] WADC 165.
