Chris is a Senior Associate in Wotton Kearney’s Professional Indemnity team specialising in financial lines products. He advises local and London based underwriters on a wide range of coverage and liability issues and defends insureds, in both litigated and un-litigated claims, in the areas of professional indemnity, construction and financial services.
Chris has experience in the disability sector and has worked closely with disability service providers in regulatory proceedings and public inquiries, including the Royal Commission into violence, abuse, neglect and exploitation of people with disability.
Chris has appeared in the Local, District and Supreme Courts of New South Wales. He has also been involved in matters across a range of jurisdictions, including New South Wales, Queensland, Victoria and Western Australia.
Chris also participates in Wotton Kearney’s Community Footprint pro bono program.
Professional Indemnity
- Defending professionals including engineers, architects and builders in claims for negligence and breach of contract.
- Defending a London based architect regarding the construction of a $10 million luxury residential development.
- Acting in defence of a construction company by a Horse Racing Club arising from alleged claims of defective works to a racecourse.
- Acting in defence of a real estate agency in proceedings brought by vendors arising from breaches of professional services.
Financial Institutions
- Advising D&O and professional indemnity insurers on crime/fidelity claims.
- Acting for AFSLs and financial planners in actions before AFCA involving the provision of negligent and inappropriate advice to invest in trading options through an SMSF.
Construction PI
- Advising TPL insurers and design and construct contractors on a $150 million+ claim due to defective bathroom works undertaken to a major London based development.
- Acting on behalf of a design and construction contractor on the failure of a grain pump loop system used for harvesting crops.
- Successfully defending a claim against a market leader in the power distribution sector made by a developer of residential apartments.
