Carren specialises in advising global (re)insurers on contentious coverage matters, with a particular focus on the property, energy and infrastructure sectors.

Carren has extensive experience providing nuanced advice on complex coverage issues, including advising on CAR/BI policies and representing property insurers in a variety of casualty incidents, such as power plant breakdowns, industrial fires and building collapses. She has extensive experience in international arbitration, and has acted in proceedings conducted under the auspices of various institutions, including the ICC, SIAC and LCIA.

Having served as a Claims Executive while seconded to a global specialty (re)insurer, Carren has an in-depth understanding of the claims management landscape.

  • Advising on strategy and coverage response in a high-profile data breach and ransomware attack giving rise to investigations by several APAC data regulators.
  • Advising (re)insurers on policy coverage in relation to COVID-19 movement control orders and business interruption losses.
  • Advising (re)insurers on coverage issues and recovery options pertaining to fraudulent transactions giving rise to the collapse of a bunker trader.
  • Advising D&O insurers on coverage response and defence strategy in relation to claims brought against directors and officers of various policyholders.
  • Advising professional indemnity insurers on coverage response and monitoring the defence of various claims brought against professionals such as architects and solicitors.

International Commercial Arbitration

  • Acting for a Malaysian construction company in a joint venture dispute in the SIAC arising out of the construction of modifications to an oil rig.
  • Advising and representing an Indonesian biopharmaceutical company in relation to a joint venture dispute referred to SIAC arbitration.
  • Acting for a Web 3.0 company in a claim against a director for wrongful appropriation of company assets and conflicts of interest and obtaining a worldwide Mareva injunction.
  • Defending a French automotive component manufacturer in an ICC dispute in relation to a worldwide product liability claim.
