Nick has significant experience in defending statutory classes, public liability and property damage insurance claims, as well as dust disease claims in the ACT and NSW.
Nick advises Australian insurers, self-insureds and employers on the defence of claims and litigation strategies and regularly appears as an advocate in the ACT Supreme Court, ACT Magistrates Court, ACT Civil and Administrative Tribunal, New South Wales Dust Diseases Tribunal and at mediations. Nick has also previously practised in New South Wales, where he defended claims in the NSW District Court and the Supreme Court of New South Wales.
Nick has previously undertaken a one-year secondment with a major Australian general liability insurer where he provided claims handling assistance to the liability and property team.
Nick was also recognised as a recommended lawyer in Doyles Guide Leading Public & Product Liability Lawyers Canberra 2023.
- Acting for a major Australian insurer in relation to multiple personal injury (including psychological injury) claims arising from the collapse of a concrete slab on a construction site in the ACT. The claims involved complex liability, apportionment and damages issues and were successfully resolved.
- Acting for the ACT Workers Compensation Default Insurance Fund Manager in relation to dust disease claims arising from exposure to asbestos in an occupational setting in the ACT between the 1950s and 1980s.
- Acting in a subrogated recovery action resulting from a significant water damage event and securing complete recovery by relying on a contractual indemnity between a supplier and the insured.
