Keelin is part of the Wotton Kearney’s Property and Energy practice. She advises clients in relation to coverage, disputes, litigated claims, and subrogated recoveries arising in various contexts including material damage, defective building work and major loss.
Keelin has expertise in construction litigation and alternative dispute resolution. She has appeared in the High Court defending the interests of insurers and their clients in relation to claims concerning defective design and/or construction in both residential and commercial contexts.
- Assisting with acting for insurers and their clients pursuing a significant recovery following major loss in one of New Zealand’s largest fires.
- Assisting with defending an insurer on appeal following a successful judgment in the High Court concerning arson.
- Advising insurers in relation to coverage and disputes under various policies, including in respect of material damage, business interruption and contract works.
- Assisting with acting for insurers in numerous High Court proceedings alleging defective repairs of homes damaged by the Christchurch earthquakes, including representation at judicial settlement conferences.
- Advising and acting for residential and commercial contractors on a range of construction matters such as payment disputes, delays, contract negotiation and variations, workmanship and design and construction issues, including resolution by way of litigation and alternative dispute resolution.
- Appearing in the High Court as junior counsel representing interests of insurers and their professional clients defending claims including breach of contract and professional negligence.
- Defending construction professionals in multi-party proceedings involving weather tightness and other building/construction defects.
- Successfully defending contractors in adjudications commenced under the Construction Contracts Act.
- Advising private clients and local government entities regarding rights and obligations arising under the Resource Management Act.
