Philippa specialises in representing NSW government clients responding to intentional tort and personal injury claims concerning alleged child abuse. Philippa has represented NSW government agencies in an array of claims concerning abuse alleged to have occurred in institutional and non-institutional settings, including claims involving multiple and uninsured co-defendants. Philippa has also acted for the State in claims concerning false imprisonment, prison assaults and nervous shock.
Philippa came to private practice with over five years’ experience working in the NSW public sector. She has specialist knowledge in the development of the child protection systems in NSW and utilises this, along with her detailed understanding of government record holdings, to conduct thorough liability investigations and advocate strongly for her clients.
Philippa has a deep understanding of the financial and reputational risks faced by government clients responding to sensitive abuse claims. Philippa takes a trauma-informed and pragmatic approach to litigation that is directed towards minimising further distress to individuals who bring claims without compromising her clients’ interests. Philippa has earned the trust and respect of key stakeholders in the abuse space, including opposing Counsel.
